I don’t think I made a symbolic argument at all. I said that viewing your vote as meaningless because your state is safe is wrong because your state is safe proportionally to people not taking up your view that their votes are meaningless.

Respectfully, I think you misunderstand what's happening if you think voters like me determine if Oregon is a safe state or not. If Oregon stops being a safe state, that'll be because of much larger and more consequential changes, like a shift in demographics, an economic collapse, etc..

If you want to sit out an election and make arguments for why that’s good and right, I can’t stop you. I just think it’s wrong, and until we have a better system than we do (which, btw, advocate for this! Convince people!), abdicating the operative choice at any level is not pragmatic.
