I’ve finally been ~convinced that this state of mental health is not normal, nor my fault, so I’m going to take some further steps. ~I mean, I’m kind of convinced it isn’t my fault. But I can’t solve it myself. So.

It made me love stage management - the person who ran around making sure we had the fridge doors open, and that nobody wandered past for a loo break, who had a radio and a clipboard and cued the Irish Army. I mean, the music was great and all, but muttering into a radio so that cannons fired…

I worked the bar at the Adare Music Festival (mumble mumble) years ago, and the closing night had a performance of the 1812 overture, complete with actual cannons that were much closer to us bar staff in our tent than to the audience. Blew my mind. We all jumped up and down and screamed.

I don’t know why, but people have a tendency to jump to conclusions about the type of person I am and be spectacularly wrong. Mostly I think it says more about them than about me. Today - I won’t share details - I’m just agog at the idea of being taken as such a corporate shill.

I’ve been checking out card options since, wherever I see cards, and there are basically: you want to thank lots of people with matched and expensive cards; or, it’s a very particular occasion for a particular connection of yours. 5/5

(Note: despite my jokey hashtag, this was two months ago) New nieces. New granddaughters. Gender is big in cards. Finally, by the cash register, I found generic thank you cards, two different but not too dissimilar, that I could buy for my colleagues. Ungendered. Hooray. 4/5

Case in point: I wanted to buy thank you cards for two of my colleagues. I like my colleagues, this is the kind of thing I do for them. I was in a discount shop, they had card shelf, I browsed it. Birthdays for various slices of relatives and friends. Communion cards (#Ireland) 2/some

One of the (many) things I hate about capitalism at this stage is that it is supposed to give you-the-consumer choices, but instead it just slices up your choices so finely that you are trailing past shelves of supposed choices that don’t match your actual needs. 1/some
