Unfortunately the term has lost all meaning. A while back I saw a neat-looking little hatchback in the parking lot and looked it up online only to find it’s branded as an SUV (a “compact crossover”).

I would like to think we could apply it to full size pickups and SUV's where the hoods are taller than a regular hatchback, but most people don't have a vehicle taxonomy that detailed
