Library funding is almost always justified through patron numbers. The more people a library serves, the more funding it gets. So even if you don't regularly use a public library, get a library card. It costs you nothing and helps everyone in your community.

I went into A Quiet Place: Day One simply to complete the series and to escape the July 4 pandemonium. That it exceeded expectations shouldn't have surprised me — after all, Lupita N'yongo! and a superb cat! — but I'm happy it did. Stay for the Nina Simone song at the end.

Not to be corny but I do think the ongoing aspiration to make America a pluralist democracy of equals is righteous, beautiful, and worth honoring, even if it has more often been the struggle of minorities & dissenters than the policy of the government. 🇺🇸
