i honestly have no idea how anybody more than ~10 years ago even managed it. i got lucky a year ago and feel like i just stumbled into hormones. if i'd been born a generation earlier i'd've never figured out what was wrong with me and probably would've shot myself in my 30s.

And this still follows folk now, too. "You didn't know when you were five years old? Maybe you're wrong". And that's meaningless. Maybe you figured out what it was at thirty. or sixty. Maybe you just didn't stumble on the framework that some did. But you knew something wasn't right.
