My 87-year old Mum just had to pay $3,000 to retain a private doctor for another year because of the doctor shortage, and I'm furious. She has a right to a doctor in this country. She pays her goddamned taxes. The government owes her that money.
In BC? Many people I know have lost their doctor for various reasons, but I have not heard of this before. Folks around here are just going to walk in clinics or emergency. Which is not a great option & would be very difficult for an elderly person. This is criminal.
We don't have private doctors in BC. You can pay for additional services not covered by BC Medical, and for scans etc if you don't want to wait but that's about it.
