We didn't just find out that America in fact has a king, and has had all along. We found out that the Supreme Court isn't and cannot be the sole authority on matters of constitutional interpretation. The task now is to sort out what that means for the nature & role of judicial power in the US system

There's been a lot of incredulous commentary about the Supreme Court's immunity case but few have made the straightforward point (notable exception @chrislhayes.bsky.social) that the decision is obviously incorrect as a matter of constitutional law. SCOTUS got it wrong & it isn't--can't be--the law.

No candidate more to the left than Biden has any shot at the nomination. With a president likely to lean more on appointed officials to set policy, as Biden has been and likely will continue to be, there is more room for leftist policy goals to be realized.

The social consequences of allowing Le Pen to win would just be higher, I think. If you're a Macronist and you don't step aside, I think you would get run out of polite society in a way that we have trouble imagining happening in the United States.

3 is a trash-fire in terms of getting it to run. New Vegas is a good entry point - it works for most people immediately, and if not modding it to work isn't too bad. If you want the aesthetic and easiest to make work, but don't care for the best story, Fallout 4 is the way to go.

Yeah, but as an explanatory factor status perception is at least as, if not more important, than material reality. That shows up repeatedly in micro studies of populist attitudes. I mostly agree with your point - but I just don't think we can or should entirely discount economic concerns.

I think its easy to dismiss 'economic anxiety', but that might not be fair. I think its probably easier to think of it as a trigger (one of several possible triggers), but not a cause. But the inherently divisive point is good. One of the big questions is how are the lines drawn?
