I guess I am not referring to social media so much as I am the phone/tablet generally combined with its ability to remove the need for activity. Don’t need a library. Dont need to be with people. YouTube is just modern tv, sure. And tons of kids did little but watch tv. But not NOTHING but tv.

The biggest barrier to outside play for kids nowadays is access. Parents are less willing for them to wander alone, other adults are intolerant of kidsz presence outside, school & after school schedules & parents' schedules are brutal, too many cars (&too big & too fast) break up the landscape, etc.

Again, I think you'll find kids are way more resilient than adults give them credit for. Kids want to play outside and want to be with other kids. We need to give them opportunities to do that.
