The larger structural issue of farm systems depending on exploiting and underpaying its workers also must be part of this conversation. The Fair Food Program is a key piece of this puzzle.

It is fully okay to vote for the NLRB board being able to protect unions and the FTC to keep all our grocery stores from being owned by the same entity.
You don’t have to like the goddamn candidate.

I recognize this! First, old doors set their knobs lower than new ones. 2nd,, as doors age they warp and hang low so they scrape on the floor and one quick solution is to cutt\ off the bottom. 3rd, sometimes when the floors are renewed the new flooring is just laid right on top, worsening it.

My doctor was "concerned" (doctor speak for: kind of freaked out) & wanted to get me heart tests & another appt as soon as possible, The next echocardiogram available is 3 months away and the next town over, and her next opening is six weeks away. She's left with urging me to hit ER if things go bad

It's a good illustration of several points about US political geography, but my first reaction on seeing it was "absolutely not," since like any division of California it would starve the mountains & leave the workers in the south and the valleys without protection.

This doesn't describe California culture. There's tremendous distinctions between coastal and inland ("Valley") and mountain, & those distances are less than 100 miles, sometimes ~20 miles. (This without buying in to the "coastal elite hippies vs inland rightwing rubes" bit: it's complicated!).

I would like to make other housebound friends. For me it's agoraphobia but there are other reasons like being immunocompromised. Please share this so I can meet people who can't go out most or all of the time.

I'm on the coast & we're forty degrees less than some places in the Valley-60 degrees less than Palm Springs! I'm used to more like 10-20 degrees difference. It's awestriking how hot it is inland.

It's a cover if it comes out afterwards. If it comes out before, even if the 2nd version is by the songwriter, it's just an early version- maybe even the "original," depending on the specifics of the song's history.

I think the tacticsl mistake was letting them make you go round and round with them: one clarification (or 2)& then mute the conversation or block the person probably would serve you better.
At least it's been better for me since I started mostly doing that. & I think I regret it every time I forget

There's a guy on youtube putting out videos under he name "practical engineering." He sometimes talks about how regulations & regulators work (or don't) & issues of distribution & safety & other interesting governance things. He also builds a lot of models in his garage.

Celina shared this pic as the sun was rising in Arvin CA. At sunrise the temp was already 72 degrees, on its way to a high of 107°. She picks vegetables up to 8 hours a day during the hot summer months. #WeFeedYou

pretty stunning how the billionaire class(and yes that means the legacy media) have completely turned on Biden. They'd rather have a fascist dictatorship than pay taxes and a living wage to employees. Insane power grab in front of the cameras

Hello social medias...
You may not be aware a major Cat 5 hurricane struck an area that normally doesn't get them. The eye passed directly over Carriacou and Petit Martinique.
The devastation is tremendous. The need is great.

"It is sad that we should meet only thus at the ending. For the world is changing: I feel it in the water, I feel it in the earth, and I smell it in the air. I do not think we shall meet again."

I was going to say here is the problem with our consumption of news these days, but I actually think it's not worse now than in earlier days, just harder to ignore. This post 1)attributes to Ursula things she didn't say 2)builds a case on that 3) rejects _principles_ of justice & knowledge.
