Kind of tired of making profiles. Me: trying to retrieve my writing brain from health problems in the time I have left. Also babushka to a promising goblin. If we did what I said, we wouldn't be in such a fucking mess. Top picture: cement ship, Aptos

Well, at least we know that the Drop Out caucus isn't old and feeble given the way they keep moving goalposts around, which is very physically demanding

You're right! The availability of vaccines & the cost are both so unevenly distributed. We have to give slack where it's needed, & the rest of us need to do our best.

It's one reason I grab every booster available to me (a literal pensioner with dual coverage). My kids can't get as many as me, my extra vaccination helps protect them in several ways, including them not having to take care of me.

All the more reason for those who can get one to do it. We should be counting the people who can't into our calculations.

I lived in the 50s, & none of this was uncontested. Nor was it as homogeneously true as people remember it. It was a roiling battleground with patchwork conditions. This is _why_ the 60s could be such a riot.

Good post focused on the presidential election. If you want to help my beloved, beleaguered south fight back against gerrymandering and anti-democratic capture, here's a few orgs that can help:

We've made this world, and we need to adapt to live in it, and to make infrastructure shifts to slow the change.

When you live in a place very close to record breaking, lethal, heat, but your place is having normal summer pattern weather (which is to say cold & grey except for 3 hrs of sun)& you feel guilty even though it's not your doing that the onshore winds pushed the heat ridge over the hill.

You can calm both thesecwolves by having one sentence use one detail that is characteristic but not stereotypical or world famous. Just, if it's a sign or a pretzel seller at a station, make sure it exists in the correct time.

The larger structural issue of farm systems depending on exploiting and underpaying its workers also must be part of this conversation. The Fair Food Program is a key piece of this puzzle.

We must protect undocumented workers from the State and bad bosses.

It is fully okay to vote for the NLRB board being able to protect unions and the FTC to keep all our grocery stores from being owned by the same entity. You don’t have to like the goddamn candidate.

I recognize this! First, old doors set their knobs lower than new ones. 2nd,, as doors age they warp and hang low so they scrape on the floor and one quick solution is to cutt\ off the bottom. 3rd, sometimes when the floors are renewed the new flooring is just laid right on top, worsening it.

My doctor was "concerned" (doctor speak for: kind of freaked out) & wanted to get me heart tests & another appt as soon as possible, The next echocardiogram available is 3 months away and the next town over, and her next opening is six weeks away. She's left with urging me to hit ER if things go bad

It's a good illustration of several points about US political geography, but my first reaction on seeing it was "absolutely not," since like any division of California it would starve the mountains & leave the workers in the south and the valleys without protection.

This doesn't describe California culture. There's tremendous distinctions between coastal and inland ("Valley") and mountain, & those distances are less than 100 miles, sometimes ~20 miles. (This without buying in to the "coastal elite hippies vs inland rightwing rubes" bit: it's complicated!).

I'm on the coast & we're forty degrees less than some places in the Valley-60 degrees less than Palm Springs! I'm used to more like 10-20 degrees difference. It's awestriking how hot it is inland.

It's a cover if it comes out afterwards. If it comes out before, even if the 2nd version is by the songwriter, it's just an early version- maybe even the "original," depending on the specifics of the song's history.

I think the tacticsl mistake was letting them make you go round and round with them: one clarification (or 2)& then mute the conversation or block the person probably would serve you better. At least it's been better for me since I started mostly doing that. & I think I regret it every time I forget

There's a guy on youtube putting out videos under he name "practical engineering." He sometimes talks about how regulations & regulators work (or don't) & issues of distribution & safety & other interesting governance things. He also builds a lot of models in his garage.

pretty stunning how the billionaire class(and yes that means the legacy media) have completely turned on Biden. They'd rather have a fascist dictatorship than pay taxes and a living wage to employees. Insane power grab in front of the cameras

Hello social medias...

You may not be aware a major Cat 5 hurricane struck an area that normally doesn't get them. The eye passed directly over Carriacou and Petit Martinique.

The devastation is tremendous. The need is great.

"It is sad that we should meet only thus at the ending. For the world is changing: I feel it in the water, I feel it in the earth, and I smell it in the air. I do not think we shall meet again."

I was going to say here is the problem with our consumption of news these days, but I actually think it's not worse now than in earlier days, just harder to ignore. This post 1)attributes to Ursula things she didn't say 2)builds a case on that 3) rejects _principles_ of justice & knowledge.
