On Topgear, I meant... I think it was a race to find the fastest politician? Anyway, it's just now occurred to me that, if I were to visit England, you could probably trick me into doing some pretty weird stuff by telling me it's customary

Was the ventriloquist guy in Topgear once in the 00s or was that some other guy in a weird suit? I remember everyone acting like that's just how some British politicians dress so I just accepted it at face value, thinking, "maybe this is just the last vestige of some custom that's unfamiliar to me"

I had a couple of mtb bro friends take me to lift serviced mountain once. It was fun but I just don't have the bike handling skills for it. I can see why others enjoy it though!
I wish I could say that I came into retro biking on purpose, but honestly my bikes just got old and I kept using them.

...I looked at the design of the brake and discovered that I could swap everything from one side of the brake to the other, effectively running it backwards.
That's why this image should mess with bike people: the cable is reversed. It hurts my brain to look at it but it works great!

I'm proud of this for a really dumb reason: the bike originally had cantis so the last cable stop before the seat post is on the wrong side for v-brakes. After riding with a long piece of housing from the handlebar to the brake, secured by cable tires to the top tube, for about three years...

Hey, that's great. I'm glad you've got a candidate you can vote for and feel good about it! I don't think many people can say that.
In objective terms, Biden is probably the best president of my lifetime too, but that's an awfully low bar.

I think that if the Democrats want to run Harris, it's late enough in the game for that to be a real long shot. I think the odds against her winning only get worse as time passes without reintroducing her as a public figure. No idea whether she could win or not but they'd better hurry up and decide!

Nobody I know is voting for Biden so much as they're voting against Trump. That was true before the debate and it's still true now.
Joe could be in a vegetative state and still be "Not Trump."

They need to stay on the message that he's not Trump, and reinforce that by repeatedly reminding everyone of Trump's failures in his previous term and the insanity of "Project 2025" or whatever they're calling it.

The Sport 2.0 with a stick is legitimately awesome, the last mainstream sedan with an available 3rd pedal. It was still too new for me to afford one when they came out and I was really bummed about it.

According to the champions of this technology, this is called "hallucinating," so instead of looking at this and thinking this is "dumb" or "wrong" or "bad," you should be thinking, "Oh, it's tripping balls right now, I'll check back again tomorrow."

It sounded like you were implying so, and I thought it would be neat if you might verify more explicitly. Of course I already know the answer to that question, why do you think I asked?
A little curious that you'd be referring to AIPAC as the Jewish ONE then, eh?

If they're going after progressives in Democratic primaries, they can go straight to hell. My point was that you brought up the question of their nationality, not the person whose comment you responded to.

Which lobbying firm had the greatest influence in this election? If one had a greater influence let's denounce them too! Honestly, there aren't many lobbying firms in this country I'd describe differently.
Also wondering, is AIPAC literally the only one that represents jews in our country?

What are you even talking about? AIPAC has consistently been a force for evil in our politics. They shut down progressives in Democratic primaries and back Republicans in many races, therefore they are demonstrably evil. The question of their nationality is irrelevant.

I mean, they're evil shitbags, they can be from whatever country they want and it wouldn't change their fundamental nature as evil shitbags.

Of course it would be better if he could have won by addressing race head on first, instead of a more general assessment of economic inequality, but he made the calculation that he'd win fewer votes that way. Maybe he was right and maybe he was wrong...

I think that Bernie understood this and that he decided to crack one nut at a time and went with the one that, while likely to be the least effective in the long run, would be likely to help him keep the most votes in the short run.

I might reframe this and say that eliminating racial hierarchy would help us go a lot further towards mitigating capitalist inequality than would be possible otherwise, and that this is a big reason why we see so many billionaire douchebags pushing/ supporting white nationalist causes.

Oh yeah, it took a Matthew Shepard to make everybody go, "jeez maybe this homophobia stuff isn't too cool," and even that wasn't enough to get through to some people. It's amazing how fucked up something can be without anyone noticing, if it's always been that way.

I've long been convinced that the whole point of political conservatism is to ensure that otherwise unremarkable people born into wealthy families are able to stay wealthy (and presumably in positions of power and responsibility) for no reason other than that they were born into a wealthy family.

Thanks! I realize I sound like the sort of pseudo-fan who might enjoy Loaded and complain about how weird the rest of VU's discography is, for example... but if you told me those two books were written by different people, I would have believed you. ToS is such a heavy read, relatively speaking.
