I just got back from there now as I went after work. There is some water in parts of it again! But lots of vegetation that has grown up the last few years so no great shorelines but it’s shallow! Dowitchers, phalaropes etc so it was fun!

The 600 is long, but I find that f4 and even f5.6 at 840 is generally more than workable. But I do use noise reduction so that helps a ton. Bottom line is we need both🤣

I do, and I’ve seen some really good ones that others have produced! I should put that on the to do list! It’s amazing how accurate they are, but I guess they expend a lot of energy, so missing is not a good plan!

While many ducks have a coloured wing patch, the Northern Shoveler said “give me two!” Add the green head, the spoon-like bill and the orange feet, and they are a package! This male northern shoveler decided to fly to the other side of the marsh to check out the foraging options!🪶

True! , lighter means more expensive! I do miss it for a couple reasons. The big one is the close focus. The 600 is 14ft, 400 is 8 ft ish. I often run into smaller birds too close. The 400 isn’t much lighter, but it is shorter so it would be easier to handhold. But the 1.4x was always on the 400

It’s been such a great spring for that! One of my favourite marshes dried up about 4 years ago and I’ve yet to make it there to check it out. I’m hopeful it has some in it again.

There is a sequence and it’s cool to see the different positions it got into! In all the sequences with kingbirds and swallows over the years, I’m not sure I’ve seen one miss!

🤣 I used to own a couple versions of the Nikon 400 along side a 600. When I switched to Sony, I went with just a 600. I’ve been thinking about that error ever since🤣 The thing to check would be weight and if parts are still available. Even one model newer might be a huge weight reduction.

June was a rainy month and for the first time in years, many of the prairie marshes are full … of both water and babies! American coots are wonderful birds, and this coot parent was paying very close attention to her baby as it explored its marsh home!🪶
