We watch our children and tremble. The teen suicide rate isn't Montana's, but it's still 3x-4x NJ, MA, or NY. And because there are simply fewer people here, the loss hits a little different. We had a suicide cluster at my local middle school at the same time Palo Alto did and it was horrific.

For the last ten years, we have ranked first in the nation for drug overdose deaths. People think of overdoses as something that happens in cities, but they also happen in quiet hollers, when the sun doesn't shine until ten in the morning and it leaves at four in the afternoon.
