Also ported FFmpeg to the ESP32/FreeRTOS, so I can run NymphCast Audio directly on those MCUs. No RPi Zero and Linux required.

I got a few RPis kicking around and they're mostly okay, but things like hardware acceleration for video en/decode will just never work (reliably). I have them in use as headless servers now. For real work I got N100-based PCs. They're just too rad :)

Seems that Linux support for the Allwinner H2+/H3 SoC is already basically RIP. Recent Armbian image has broken WiFi and USB Ethernet worked until a spontaneous shutdown. Not a crash, just randomly the thing deciding that it wanted to halt the system. ARM SoCs are such complete trash.

Urge to commit violence against US date format supporters rising. It's just a broken format that corrupts the idea of a date format. YYYY/MM/DD is fine, DD/MM/YYYY is fine, shortening the year is problematic, flipping DD & MM should be punishable by death.

Even within something like Qt that smooths over so many rough WinAPI edges it's a severe pain sometimes, but at least it provides some comfort... And then I run the app with the same Win32 UI under Android and it doesn't have those issues :D (just different ones, of course...)

I guess I'm grateful that none of my work involves making GUIs in Windows. There's just the NymphCast Player thing that I did in Qt5. I'm not really a GUI designer, more of a CLI monkey :)

I'm still bemused that Win10 finally fixed the completely idiotic system variables dialogue that had been causing grief since at least WinNT. The shift to the XP-style UI & then the Vista composing engine probably fixed more issues than anything else done on purpose. Then Win8+ broke it again...

I now want to check whether ReactOS is doing a better job. They probably do, as they're fixing smaller and larger UI issues all the time. Clearly MSFT is too busy screwing its users over to care any more.

Yeah, I have embedded the LiteHTML library in some code before, which just does HTML & basic CSS, and it barely touches the RAM. If I were to add even a simple JS lib like Ducktape to it, it'd blow out resource use, even without the fancy JIT, super-charged JS runtimes Chrome etc. use.

It seems to be due to how file permissions in Linux are limited to just RWX per group, without other folder properties as seen with more civilised OSes. NT > Linux, IMO.

Discord is such a festering pile of horse droppings. Can block people all you want, but you are still going to be notified every time they post something and get the timeline polluted with 'see blocked message(s)' spam. Six year old forum topic on it and Discord 'devs' are like 'nope, can't do'.
