Yep, small displacement & all the gear all the time — gunna do all I can to not become a grease spot. Definitely have enough sense to not go out and get myself a liter starter bike, so I’m looking into either a Triumph Speed or Scrambler 400.

A very close friend and one of my siblings were hoping I’d not like the motorcycle fundamentals course I took over the weekend. Cos they (possibly correctly!) think I’m gunna yeet myself out of existence on a motorcycle. But nah, loved it!

Thanks! Hadn’t ridden a motorcycle in roughly 30 years. Long enough to not know anything about riding anymore, ‘cept that I really wanted to get back into it.

That’s awesome! My uncle taught me to play when I was 7 or so, always grateful he did.

If I may make a suggestion in case you and your grand-niece wanna play when geographically distanced, I think lichess.org is great!

This is the one that got assigned to me. …it’s also more than a bit bizarre that all you really need to do to get a motorcycle license in the US is learn how to ride around at low speeds in a parking lot.

I’m a good capitalist 😅 Seriously, though, at least where SciAm’s concerned, the culture’s pretty great, engineering managers are awesome, and I can feel pretty alright about myself & how I earn my keep. I like it a good bit more than when I worked for tech-ier places.

I really appreciated this author’s response to a reader’s thoughtful question. The question evinced critical engagement of the text. Authorial intention doesn’t need to align with one’s reading of a book.

Same could be said for older people. Getting diagnosed with ADHD was really helpful. Admittedly, iunno that I flourished per se but it definitely diminished my floundering. A lot.

Ran 4 miles today at an 8’13” pace. Felt like I was dragging sandbags and breathing diesel exhaust. Week before the COVID onslaught I ran 12 miles at a 7’20” pace. Felt f.n awesome. Dunno if this means I needed to wait longer to restart running, but I was losing my mind from the inactivity.

I am acutely sensitive that people want to celebrate the ascension of women to positions of power. But from my perspective, cheering her victory is akin to cheering the confirmation of Clarence Thomas to SCOTUS. It was not a victory for Black people, just a victory for Thomas & his cronies.

She represents a continuation of AMLO’s criminal collusion with cartels, further expansion of the military (also a cartel!) into the domestic sphere, a reinstatement of some form of the top-down clientelism of the PRI… …and of course the continued murder of tens of thousands of Mexican citizens.
