I just recently looked this up because I am terrified of flying! According to The Guardian, yes, over the long term, it is happening more often. But I also think there just happens to be a spate of reporting about incidents this year, too, that may not have been the case in recent years? Hard to say
Maybe another instance of just seeing something more often on TV, b/c everybody has a video cam in their pocket... Or maybe airlines ordering pilots fly closer to dangerous weather to save fuel (& $$$)
Seems to be more reports. Not sure if it's more instances of turbulence or more flights or something about the particular routes the planes were flying.
The flight I was on Friday from Brussels to DC was pretty smooth, but you could tell the flight deck was being very cautious - putting crew in jump seats even when it wasn’t too bad.
