I do seem to write the same poem over & over. Here are two from June 27 : the 1st in 2021 (RESTORATION DAY), the 2nd 2012 (LANTHANUM). “Roger” in both refers to Roger Williams : champion of freedom of conscience, separation of church & state, & founder of Rhode Island.

I with others used to debate these questions about language, poetry & reality on the Buffalo Poetics List (ad nauseam). But Billy brings some precision & grace. The last time I heard him read was almost 30 yrs ago, at Brown U, in Providence.

“and the second is like unto it : thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.” Like unto it. (I like that word “chesed”! The way it sounds. I like the sound of “benevolence” too, but “chesed” is more simple and direct.)
