What we are witnessing is the rich elite are trying to manipulate the public and deceive us with headlines designed to be misleading deceptions, they are trying to skew the narrative in favor of fascism. Reminder that the journalists do not choose the headline, the corporation owners choose the headline, and the billionaires chose the headline because the rich elite stands with fascists. The article says that the 3 ideas were 'good sounding' but are horrible and harmful ideas that are bad practices.

Recently I read an atlas of Ontario reptiles & amphibians and noticed that all the snakes in FR were called "couleuvres" rather than "serpents" Apparently couleuvres & vipères are the 2 KINDS of "serpents" but it doesn't seem to be constrictor vs venomous?? And couleuvre just translates as snake...

Yeah, true. Most of the time I see this come up, though, it's in relation to people having found out a bad thing done by a creator of beloved or meaningful work-- and now people are trying to find a way to still Be Good while liking something by a Bad Person (There are other avenues, of course.)

I feel I should also clarify that I'm NOT advocating for art to be separate from the artist. The artist made the art. Rather, I don't think it's reasonable or possible to expect creators to be pristine, unimpeachable, and to never do wrong. I think as a culture we need to adjust our expectations.

I dunno man, the whole issue seems to be about people once again over-identifying with their consumption choices. "I read exclusively ABC, who is a Good Person, therefore I'm a Good Person." It doesn't really work that way, and anyway, we are all kind of a mixed bag, not Good or Bad.

The crux of it is this: Any piece of art is a collaboration between the artist, the work, and the viewer. The artist does not get to maintain full control of their work because the audience is who interprets it. If art by a shitty person is nonetheless important to you, that's allowed.

Like, sure, don't give hateful people money to fund hateful projects. Keep an eye out for fucked up stuff in what you interact with, think critically. But it's weird to me that we seem to think that liking a piece of art means unconditionally supporting whoever made it.

I feel like "separate the art from the artist" is only an issue because we have some kind of pathological need for creators to be pristine role models, which is... unrealistic, to put it lightly. People arent all good or all bad. You can do & likely have done good and awful things in the same life.
