What will happen v wishful thinking. Democracy operates on the principle that tomorrow is better (for individuals) than today. No government is going to get elected on the basis that a billion strangers are more important than immediate family.

Thanks Suzanne for shining a spotlight on this forced exodus in the depths of winter, and for disentangling the complex history and politics so expertly. For two decades after 2001, Afghanistan/Pakistan was an intense focus for UK diplomacy and the armed forces. Now it’s ignored.

Discovered recently that while my elderly neighbour won't accept charity, she's happy to take "unwanted two-for-the-price-of-one" items off my hands. So now we do a nice dance with that where no pride is hurt. Sharing as a tip for anyone worried about a neighbour's food security in cold weather.

Yes. I asked a question on Twitter re this. If you found that the side you supported had committed that atrocity, would it change your support? I fear the answer is no. If an act like that is committed by your enemy, they are barbarous, monsters. Your own side, ….invent your excuse.
