📢NEW: There's another election on the horizon, and this one is far scarier. I wrote about The Heritage Foundation's well-funded, tightly coordinated plan to create an ever more brutal future - and it'll affect everyone on Earth.

Britain really needs to stop simply handing citizenship out to Telegraph columnists until we can figure out what's going on.

🚨A great summary of Tory net zero sceptics getting the boot in the UK elections from my colleague Carlton Reid. Also: why can't the media talk about the progressive Green party, which won four seats, while it lavishes attention on the aggressively xenophobic Reform party, which won four seats?

Google’s emissions are up 48% in 5 years. Microsoft’s are up 30% since 2020. Those soaring figures are being driven by mass investments in data centers to power AI tools. Generative AI is a climate disaster and data center expansion must be stopped.

With #Beryl barreling across the Caribbean as the earliest cat. 5 on record, let’s remember that things are just going to get worse as we continue to consume nearly 100 million barrels of oil every day.

There are a lot of climate people out there who might say that if enabling an ongoing genocide isn't a dealbreaker, why worry about climate change?

We’re making a lot of plastic. In the nearly 70 years between 1950 and 2019, we produced a total of ~9.5 billion tonnes of plastic. But that's equivalent in weight to the amount of CO₂ we emitted to the atmosphere during the first three months of 2024.

Unthinkable just a few years ago: Almost 20% of all cars sold in 2024 are predicted to be electric vehicles. BNEF expects global EV sales to reach 16.6 million in 2024.

📢To paraphrase singer Utah Phillips: “Climate action is not dying, it is being killed. And those who are killing it have names and addresses.” We know who they are, and we even have a good idea about how to counter their efforts.

📢NEW: When it comes to climate inaction, our media and the IPCC have been trying to tell the story of Star Wars without Darth Vader. A new book, Climate Obstruction in Europe, shows how this approach is making fools of us all.

📢NEW from me: Carbon dioxide removal is "stuck between a rock and a hard place": on the one hand, there are concerns that companies could use it to delay cutting their emissions. On the other, every pathway to zero carbon requires CDR. So what should we do? @oxfordsmithschool.bsky.social
