Since middle grade is the intended audience, it's just shy of 50K. Which is quite a nice break after striving away at older pieces which are twice that or more... Definitely makes middle grade (or novellas) quite an appealing prospect!

I can already see I'm going to want to tighten the emotional screws on MC in chapter 1, but I also need to take a break to get some distance from the current draft.

Can't believe it's already check in time again!
Since I was sick, I was slower than usual as I tried to be gentle on myself. I revised a chapter per day in my internalisations-focussed revision run, and I rewrote chapter 2. I'm much happier with where new chapters 1 and 2 are at now
