No customs union no rejoin. Starmer said it. Enjoy.

So Starmer rules out rejoining the EU and the CU. More and more I think Brits will wake up very soon after having left an abusive relationship, bruised from the abuse their new love interest is dishing out.

Hellvetika, please allow for my age. Before Starmer there was Corbyn. Even before Corbyn, I lived in Willy Brandt‘s Germany. I am that old. We were talking about saving the world, electing prime ministers and presidents. Meanwhile the Capital did a number on us.

I‘m not sure we have enough time left to undo the damage, but my generation has an obligation to try.

Sustainable Change is from the bottom up. That’s what the conservatives did in the last 40 years. School boards, municipalities, districts, counties, states. That’s what gave them the power to gerrymander the districts. While we were concentrating on winning the big prizes, they took over.

I know politics is dirty as fuck. If the US acknowledged a Palestinian State things would be different. Take a look at your congress and you will see there is no way this will happen now. It can, if you concentrate on getting the right people in Congress. That’s a long process.

Here the focus of the media is more on the administration’s futile attempts to box Netanyahu in to get him to stop. Again, I don’t agree with the support for Israel, but the blame for the bombing lies squarely on Bibis shoulders.

From where I am it’s a slightly different picture. Our media are not banging the steadfast ally drum quite as hard. We can see a marked difference in the US’s attitude towards the Netanyahu regime. I agree it’s still far too little. An embargo and sanctions would be more fitting.

I understand. I‘m in Switzerland looking at the world crashing into genuine fascism around our ears and terrified for the future of my children and all you young people out there. You have every right to be angry at us old people.

Please elaborate. What will an American President do if Bibi just won’t stop? Which he won’t. Btw. The other guy will give Bibi free reign, say bye bye to the West Bank if Trump gets elected. Jared has already fantasized about beachfront Mediterranean property development in Gaza.

You‘re letting Netanyahu off the hook? He, Smotrich and their government are culpable for the genocide in Gaza. Biden held bomb deliveries back. I believe he’s been far too lenient with the Israeli government but that’s not the same as committing genocide.

Prosecuting would be important. A poor working family can be punished for having a third child, but these people can’t? White collar criminals cost the taxpayer a lot.

That‘s actually not quite fair. The Emperor of Japan is on a state visit. It’s Sunak‘s job to be there. Sunak offers ample cause for criticism, cheap shots are not necessary.

This is a question Starmer never gets asked. „Will a Labour government prosecute fraudsters from the Covid era and claim back taxpayer money from the perpetrators and will corruption be punished?“ He talks a lot about policing, about white collar crime, not so much.

A reminder that a lot of tactical voting sites have a tactical/ideological position that is more than just "Get the Tories Out". (As an example, Best for Britain back Labour over the Greens in Bristol Central, despite that not being a seat with any chance of the Tory getting in).

If Southgate was Starmer: „We will not promise what we can’t deliver. We will do the same as the other team but better and it will bring change. But, however much we want the cup, we can’t make empty promises. So we’ll have to ask for patience, it’s a long term project.“

You find only find what’s right under your nose when you refuse to look around. Starmer refuses to look elsewhere. It’s not that he can’t, it’s the refusal to contemplate any other approach and the utter disregard for the poor which is infuriating.

Well, he already has. Mission accomplished. He’ll come into office with negative ratings. Is this one of the many „firsts“ in this election?

If I may predict something from the news of this weekend. Labour will very comfortably win the election. The Tories will be punished. There will be low turnout and a high percentage of third party voters. The mandate of Starmer will be tenuous at best. It will bite him in the arse within a year.

Firdt off: The Tories will win nothing this time. If Starmer wants enthusiasm, he can stop shitting on all the voters who want a fairer society and a healthier environment. As he is cocksure the left doesn’t count, he’ll not get their votes.

The antisemitism „problem“ means they are pro Palestine ? The antisemitism brush has been used so often there are no bristles left. I‘ve heard in places greens are nimbyish, but the young have no voice other than them.

How are the Greens awful? They’re most closely aligned to what young people feel and need. It’s their future which is in danger. They been fucked by Brexit, they‘re fucked by Labour scrapping green policies. They are squeezed by the cost of their own education. Who else is there for them?

You won’t like what I say. The Tories are what is the Labour party now. The LibDems are the center left now. The Greens are where centrist Labour used to be. The Tory brand is badly damaged so their policies had to be injected into a better brand. It’s a hostile takeover.

It’s not as if the British have been supporting members of the EU while they were in it. There is some scepticism towards them. Don’t expect an easy ride.

This is a UK politics feed, that’s why I was confused. Jill Stein has nothing to do with the UK Greens. Nor do the Russians.

So, if you are aligned better with a smaller party. Vote for them. It’s not a situation where the Tories have a path back into power left. If I wasn’t convinced of it, I‘d be in the „hold your nose and vote Labour“ camp. If you are aligned with Labour as it is. By all means, vote for them.

Labour will win big this time and set their sights on the next election soon. They have their numbers people. Numbers people will realize where they lost votes this time and the more votes they didn’t get, the closer they will look at why they didn’t get them. Huge majorities are bad for democracy.

As long as the system gives one or the other big party a sole majority, there is no incentive. A hung parliament which requires the collaboration with one of the smaller parties, who should make PR a prerogative for a coalition would, I think, be the way. It will not happen this time.

What is their commitment worth if you are indicating that you might vote differently if they comply? They can turn the thumbscrews on you in the very same manner in the next election.
