It’s a crying shame we don’t actually have anywhere doing legit media scrutiny. Not political/ideologically driven stuff, but just the kind of thing Press Gazette and HTfP used to do before they became so desperate for job ads/conference seat customers they turned into unquestioning mouthpieces.

Those last type are the most tedious of all. You know they’ve been told by some social research team that’s the best way to get engagement right now but when every post is like that it renders them bland gibberish.

The worst bit of freelancing at the moment (other than the lack of money) is having to engage with the horrifically writtensocial posts of the Sun and the Record, which vary from 3-2-1 clues to shoehorning of the ugly sisters to this new trend of ‘I was an X but now I’m a Y because Z’ type posts.

Amusingly, it also features a few cameos from the bloke currently trying to buy Motherwell FC, who was a senior figure at Netflix and comes across just as badly in the book as he does on his infrequent ambushes on Pie and Bovril. Bodes well for the ‘Well…

Just finished reading Pandora’s Box - biskind’s book about the rise of HBO, streaming and peak TV, which not only really does emphasise what a disaster it’s been, but what a toxic culture behind the scenes it’s generated pretty much everywhere that’s moved into it.

Deluxe and Neon very much shaped the type of mag writing I like, and even 26 years on were big influences on what I wanted to do with the zine. Although they lasted (marginally) longer.

Thrilled for Joe Hendry, even though not a huge fan of his in-ring work, as he’s a thoroughly decent bloke and him showing up regularly means another Scot to piss off C***ing and the awful Scouse podcast with a vowel missing.
