She sleeps because she's tired. She is comfortable lying on the floor. She isn't thinking 'I wish it was easier to get up on that piece of furniture'. She's a happy creature who lives in the moment and gets in enough trouble that I know she's still Whimsy.

It weighs on me a lot. I'm sure that's partially because of having still recently lost, so close together, Ivan and Tir. The awareness of the mortality of these beloved creatures is heavy. And I have to remember: she doesn't know.

She stumbles sometimes going up stairs and is more likely to be on the floor than in a chair. It feels so sudden, like she was until recently this ageless eternal 3-year-old dog and suddenly she's not.

I've been very aware, of late, that Whimsy is a senior dog. She's 13, which is past the life expectancy of a lab, and on average husky-types make it to 15. But she sleeps more. When the weather is agreeable, she can't walk forever like she once could. She doesn't come up to the bed at night.

Previously, Dark Horse was publishing individual trade paperback volumes of the series but this is now the only format they publish it in so the "omnibus edition", implying there are other editions, is a bit misleading.

Not a stupid question! In this case, the difference is that the omnibus is a collection of what would have been individual trade paperbacks of around 200 pages each. In this case it is still a trade paperback, but Dark Horse also publishes hardcover omnibuses of other titles.
