I miss cheesy live action video game cutscenes where they got a bunch of bums doing Shakespeare in the Park and paid them twenty dollars to dress up like a wizard and yell at you about how you had to kill their evil twin to save the realm or whatever.

The only good Aquaman Yom Kippur specials are the 1973 one where Tusky the Walrus mediates a peace deal between Israel and Egypt on the behest of Henry Kissinger and the 1978 one where Aquaman reflects upon his failures during the Death of a Prince saga during the day of atonement.

Many people claim it’s impractical or even impossible to effectively use two swords but this is a myth. It’s actually easier than fighting with one! You either two hand or pair with a shield depending on the sword then give the other one to your friend who does the same. Then you gank somebody.

Looking forward to getting to the DLC. I rolled up a new character (prophet, DEX uchigatana build who just uses the faith for utility, buffs, and heals) a few weeks ago, hoping that I'd have her ready for the DLC by the time of release but life got in the way.

The U.S. Constitution is an extremely impressive document, but for the opposite reasons people think. It’s not the wisdom of philosopher god-kings, it’s something made by guys like you and me under immense pressure in a hot summer with no AC who didn’t even like each other that kinda worked somehow.

Not smarter and not knowledgeable about the specifics of this particular choice but I feel like in general people think of the Constitution too much as a master plan and not enough as a kludge cobbled together to wield a bunch of unruly ex-colonies together into something vaguely manageable.

Today seemed like it was going well. Broke out the German on a pretty Austrian farm girl, she thought my accent was cute, I ditched the folks for a bit to hang out with her, and they were happy since they’re always asking where the grandkids are. My aunt who we spent several days with has COVID.

As a PhD student, the fact that what would have been a literally life-changing amount of money for me got burnt on this has been very embittering. Though I wish my cousin wasn't too good to get married in Tennessee like her sisters because not everyone has a rich husband.

No, this was mostly on my parents. My father, for reasons which are unclear to me, decided to take what could have been a few chill days in the Italian countryside and turn it into a two weeklong quagmire which has become my personal Vietnam and Afghanistan rolled into one.

Tomorrow we are going to the Alps. I am told this will be fine and I will not have to carry my mother like I have halfway across Italy because we are taking a lift. Apparently, God designed the terrain to be ADA compliant. Also, I am the only one who packed for anything other than warm temperatures.

I did not think you could fuck up getting the material to make a sandwich. We have sandwich meat but no bread, what they thought were saltines but are actually cookies because they did not know "biscuit" meant "cookie" in British English, and some potatoes they somehow thought were fish.

We are now in Switzerland. As I speak enough German to get by as a mildly incompetent Nationalvolksarmee political officer, naturally they got a hotel in the French speaking part. I entrusted them to pick up some groceries while I got some PhDing done. This was an error.

The pacing can best be described as "Bataan Death March." They scheduled a tour immediately upon landing. I went 36 hours without sleep at one point. I have kept them from getting separated from each other or the tour group on multiple occasions. It's like herding cats.

My mother has an arthritic hip. She has difficulty doing things like climbing stairs. Literally every goddamn thing these people scheduled either involves going to a very tall building constructed before the invention of elevators or a mountain. I had to carry a grown ass woman up and down Pompeii.

I would like to vent. My cousin married a rich Korean-American lawyer. They decided to have their wedding in Italy. I tagged along with my parents out of a grudging sense of filial piety. Imagine playing Lemmings but the controls are in Italian and you have to write a PhD diss at the same time.

ISIS feels meaningfully different to Al Qaeda in macrohistorical terms because AQ stemmed from US hegemony and ISIS stemmed from decline of US hegemony, broadly speaking.
