Where are you driving without bugs? I drove CO to NY, IL to FL, both this year. Each time the car was covered in bug guts.

One of the most frustrating kickbacks to net zero is the ludicrous failure to realise that net does not mean zero, but balance. The threat they use? No CO2, no food. It simply isn't like that. Invertebrate decline is an important bellwether signal of ecosystem health.

When I was a kid we did travel a lot from Germany to Italy or Spain. The windshield was full of smashed insects back then. Nowadays there is not one fly glued to the glass… this is frightening

I've been noticing this when I drive in California's central valley, which used to bug murder alley. Now, between pesticide and development, I can drive down I5 or 99 from Redding to I80 and hit one bug. (I did it last month, in fact.)
