I’m thinking more and more lately about an old radio play I heard on the sci-fi show “X minus 1” about an Earth where immortality was commonplace, and the old ruled as an intractable oligarchy, and the young were eventually forced to just genocide them with a terrorism campaign.
I recall a varient on that concept where you had a time limit for immortality, if you got it, you had to move planets/join a colonization plan after a certain amount of time and you only got to take a fixed amount with you. (To prevent people being like locusts on the local economy)
And if that isn’t on the nose enough for you, the old we’re also obscene plutocrats, because they never died and passed their wealth on as inheritance to the young, so everyone who hadn’t been born in that first generation of immortals was basically impoverished.
Yeah.
I still remember when Senator Cory Booker told Biden to his face it was "time to pass the torch" and Biden just laughed.
I almost expected him to go full Palpatine and shout "NO! NO! NO!" in a gravelly voice and rain force lightning on Booker.
