Reporters *could* shout questions at John Roberts et al when he shows his head outside his workplace or home, as they sometimes do with other significant political figures. They just choose not to because they like to help preserve the Court's "we aren't politicians" charade.

As others have noted, justices don’t have the staffing, resources, training or experience to handle the public spotlight. The only questioning they ever get is at confirmation - crying Kavanaugh dot gif - and they wilt. Full court press coverage would lead to meltdowns.
