Illusory! It's gray sparkly though I'm hoping to bring out the sea glass kind of tone by painting the lower cabinets. Someday π€£π€£ #gardenfirst

I'm getting the composting going, gonna be a while to make a practical amount (the bin system is coming in future). Ugh on builder stuff! My last yard's fill was so bad it killed trees. π³ Took years of mulching to build soil. Small lot, so we did raised beds and lots of amending planting.

I should add the soil is already poor (very clay) so needs all the help it can get. I'm not doing all raised beds (that's a lot of dirt to buy! ) so improving soil health is important.

It is worse for the soil health than chips only (eg less gas exchange/diffusion, impact to earthworms, etc). So, having done the smothering I wanted to avoid those issues.

π± Plot is not being planted this year Intended use flexible - planned part (native) landscape & part edible but can change that. Existing plants in chips are from some handfuls of partially composted leaf & veggie matter that were thrown around between chip layers Thank you!!! (4/4)

π± I have to remove chips anyway to get tape (my bad not removing beforehand) & no problem peeling up moveable bits. Just can't hand scrape a 25 x 30 patch! Ideas/advice on removing the disintegrating/fused stuff vs leaving in place? addl info: no full color, glossy, or coated cardboard used (3/x)

π± ...rake chips to adjacent area, let dry, remove cardboard, cover with chips from next area clearing, etc. I waited too long. Finding a lot of cardboard disintegrating / fused with dirt&chips, only coming up if I scrape up by hand (see previous pic). Not practical. (2/x)

π± bsky - need ideas / advice. TL; dr: What are ideas/advice for removing disintegrating/fused cardboard vs leaving in place after sheet mulching? Thread: After moving in I sheet mulched 25x30 area w/ cardboard & arborist chips in November (future chip only!). Planned round robin removal... (1/x)

Took this Wednesday before harvesting all the lettuce and greens and a few other bits. Today starts a 5 day streak of ~100F temps. Plants here & in ground have been deeply watered over several days in prep. Now it's wait and see, with extra water as they can tolerateπ€πΌπ€πΌπ€πΌ most of them make it. π±

Not only will Trump admin 2.0 be staffed with 100% MAGA loyalists eager to implement whatever Trump wants, but they also will have little reason to worry about laws that might constrain their most "enthusiastic" impulses. The norms long ago ceased constraining GOP behavior. Now the law won't either.

yep. Gardening β farming. I do it for joy and the occasional benefit of sustenance, plus benefit to environment. No illusions. Plus stuff doesn't grow in winter. These days I do think about what to grow in terms of price (eg grow the pricier stuff if possible).
