(*rubs her temples & sighs*) Y'know, I don't care for Cop-mala, either, and yet I can still see how the Dems selling out their current vice-president would be a sign that they're doomed. Not backing a creepy old man who's past his prime is one thing, but pushing out a younger WOC? They'd be cooked.

It's amazing that there seems to be a consensus view among so many pundits that Harris sucks, and it's built on nothing but endless repetition of "neener neener". There's never a specific problem mentioned! And: who is there that's obviously better? Who is the designated Johnny/Janey Unbeatable?

the theory behind this is (as a theoretical argument, not actually pushing it): if the reason Biden is stepping aside is inability to actually be president for the next four years, Harris was involved in misleading the American public about Biden's ability to be president for the next four years.

It would take an extremely unified party with incredibly strong leadership to even dare ask Harris to step aside. Not gonna happen.

if Dems were to switch (not because of debate per se but because of medical concerns), continuity, and party unity would be paramount. the only way it wouldn't be harris is if there were mass alienation from the party's center to her, and i don't think that exists.

Harris is a nonstarter. If Biden needs to step aside it’s because he can’t win because of a lack of confidence on him. Regardless of what’s being it Harris also has a viability problem. No one wants a weak candidate replaced by a weak candidate.

Right. It needs to be shouted from the rooftops that many of those who want Biden to drop out also want Harris to drop out as well for no reason. They want chaos at the Dem convention.

To be clear I'm not saying she should, I'm just pointing out that there is *absolutely* a universe where she and Biden could do so. As per convention rules, there's very little set in stone and once all parties agree, pretty much any nominee can happen.

"Vibes". For better or worse, this election seems to have collapsed down to "vibes". Harris polls extremely badly and has been attacked by the right wing news media for as long as Biden. Personally, I think that "Whitmer / Shapiro" would be stronger than "Harris / ???".

I don’t have fully formed thoughts on Kamala but I think the logic is that the Biden-Harris ticket has failed, not just Biden himself. Not saying I believe that but I could see that being the thought behind it

If Biden does step aside, only Harris offers a chance that the party won’t devolve into utter chaos.
