Favorite theorem: "Every rational function has an elementary antiderivative." That means, unlike (say) e^{x²), any rational function has an antiderivative that can be written explicitly in terms of the usual elementary functions.

The first suspicion I had that "po-tah-to" was apocryphal was when watching my child watching _Peppa Pig_, who referred several times to "Po-tay-toes." Peppa's friends have a range of British accents, but none of them said "po-tah-to."

I did not know that. I had read, long ago, that the genus name for ants was _formica_ and thought that perhaps the stuff counters were made from was chemically similar to the ant's exoskeleton. The stuff the ant injects into you when it stings is called _formic acid_, for the genus name.

Here's a workaround: Claim that the bail money isn't for bail, but simply a gratuity! (Yes, I'm being sarcastic, but it's my way to cope in a world where it is legal to bribe officials after the fact, but not legal to help a poor person stay out of jail.)

Our general process has been to keep them as comfortable as possible until we can't keep them comfortable any more, and then end their pain as humanely as possible. This means, in particular, no chemo. I'm sorry you have to deal with this, but it's the price of being a cat servant. Sympathies.
