Is it just me or is there relatively little discussion of the vast economic policy differences between the US presidential candidates? Is this because Americans don't understand economics? Or because "hot button" issues make better politics for all parties? Or both? The former seems like a problem.

Today's ruling in Murthy v. Missouri is good news for independent researchers and the American public. The case was thrown out on standing grounds, with the court acknowledging the facts presented were "murky" at best and at other times "clearly erroneous."

"But there is also a broader trend at play that does not favor Europe’s Greens. A backlash against climate change policies as part of broader culture wars has gained momentum.. And some view them as elitist urbanites who brush aside the costs of the transition to a less climate-harming way of life."

Finally someone finds a proper way to mark the 90th anniversary of the Reciprocal Trade Agreements Act this week! Didn't think it would be Trump, but I suppose that fits.

Today is the 90th anniversary of FDR's Reciprocal Trade Agreements Act. Yet protectionism is popular again. "...blaming society’s ills on something that isn’t taking place is a disservice to the public policy discussion. It won’t solve the very real problems that they want to address."

"The real lasting solution, however, starts closer to home. Western media need to rededicate themselves to accurate, objective news coverage. If citizens are convinced that their own major news sources are unbiased, they will have no reason to seek out fringe sources of news, Russian or otherwise."

This archived US Trade Representative press release marking the 80th anniversary of FDR's Reciprocal Trade Agreements Act is a depressing read. When the 90th anniversary arrives next week, will the USTR even bother commenting? Will anyone?

Pointing out that it's an inherently political, whole of society problem annoys those who have been assigned by their governments to deal with it peacemeal. (Yes, I have been shushed. Politely. And not universally.)

On the plus side, he (and Trump?) confidently references Howard Hawk's "Scarface" without even winking at Oliver Stone's remake. So there's that.
