Very much how I feel about the current public celebration of the Fourth. An early-summer friends and family is a great tradition; all that noise is stupid. When I liked fireworks was back when nobody would spend a week's wages on aerial displays.

The LA Times and Boston Globe, at least, also make it difficult to use your subscription. They seem unaware that few online users read their paper as a daily unit but rather read articles as they are linked on SM, Reddit, Metafilter, et'c et'c and they require password sign-in every time

Note: I was working for the tribe when the final SCOTUS decision of Boldt came down, and wasn't that happy again until my kids were born, and I once turned around and went back up the aisle rather than passing Gorton in the theatre. I have no particular fondness for the Evans GOP.

Mens pants used to be my default choice, but some time in the 90s the thighs and front were redesigned to emphasize the package and they both look ridiculous and do not fit a body with a six-inch difference between hips and thighs.

Yeah, I wore men's jeans for decades until they started being cut to emphasize the package. Now I make weird choices like wearing Old Navy's summer linen pants and getting them two sizes too big so I can put my Lumix in the pocket; it's unaesthetic but easier than dealing with stupid belt purses.
