The crisis of trans youth mental health right now is occurring not because it is an inevitable aspect of the trans experience but that for the first time, a generation has grown up seeing what could have been— only to have it violently taken away in only about 5 years.

I keep wondering if, at some point, long in the future, when the damage has been incalculable, there will be a paltry apology like the one we got for DOMA. When such an apology requires nothing of those who caused so much suffering but a somber photo in a Sunday weekly and 500 words about nothing.
