Pinus uncinata forests, a subalpine ecosystem in the Pyrenees, rarely burn. However, in May 2022, this forest was dry enough to burn ca. 200 ha after a lightning strike.

Fire facilitates herbaceous diversity in the Miombo of Africa. Fire also supports a unique diversity of orchids, gladioli, ferns + unique savanna life forms, underground trees. The Miombo spans an area the size of Western Europe. There was NO data on herbaceous communities in response to fire.

There is no spring this year in my area (Valencia region, E Spain) so I went to NE Spain to see a real spring.
