A lot of people stop me at the supermarket and ask "Why don't people write stories with a vampire pushed to the edge and slaughtering a bunch of bigots?" and I say "Look, man, I'm just trying to buy some tangerines." BUT I also say "Why, I've written such a book, so you're in luck!"

Just finished "Kill The Farm Boy" by Delilah S. Dawson & Kevin Hearne. An easy 5 stars for me. Dawson and Hearne set out to turn the entire "simple farm boy becomes a chosen one and takes down the evil whoever" trope and flip it on its head, and they succeeded in a tome of cover-to-cover laughter.

I bought a wheely cart to roll piles of books around for shows and stuff. I feel like nobody tells you this stuff when you start out. Like - oh, you need edits and beta readers and critique partners, but nobody says "you'll need a wagon and a tablecloth with your name on it." FUN!

I'm in the U.S. and I once called a pub in Ireland and asked the bartender what the crowd levels were like around closing time and how populace the streets were when the pub actually closed. I think I mentioned to him two or three times that I was an author because I was asking some shady stuff.
