it honestly just makes me so mad that a handful of greedy assholes have stolen all the creative work of every human being and all the wonderful and weird things people did on the internet and are now using it to take our jobs and make the internet a shitty wasteland
Maybe this will be a pivotal moment that drives people to want a return to an authentic analogue experience.. might be a renaissance of art exhibitions and film photography, poetry readings, and book clubs.. AI has no role there.
as a starving artist i can honestly say we don't need the halfassed competition...& you know the corporate world is dying to use their robotic interns instead of artists they have to compensate
It really freezes me in my tracks sometimes. This amazing place that we built over the last 2 decades is dying.
Not to mention the changes Google is making to search so that you never leave their search page.
Hard to see what is next.
Right there with you, but it doesn't feel ridiculous to think that it could fuck things up so badly that people will stop using their crap and we'll have a chance to start anew.
Ya I got my degree in digital art and literally graduated just as AI art was just becoming hugely accessible to everyone. I had a complete breakdown knowing I could never compete with it.
It's also so disgusting to see how OpenAI started as a non-profit to "better the world" and now simply acts like a normal company because they smelled the money. It's so sad, but I guess a good opportunity to focus on non-internet things again ...
I agree… if you want a little hope in the form of white-hot, seething, well-informed rage, I encourage you to listen to or read @zitron.bsky.social. This whole AI boom may well be a bubble, and if we do everything in our power — sue, use Nightshade and Glaze, etc. — it may pop even sooner.
