Today would have been my father's birthday, so I wanted to post a bank note from Paterson, his hometown. Here we see a bill with a lot going on: an odd denomination, some glorious cows, and an appearance of Chief Justice John Marshall opposite Washington. Peoples' Bank of Paterson, NJ, $7, 18--. 🗃️

Out late one night in college we stopped at a sketchy place for a snack. A friend bit into his burrito and immediately spit it out. We asked what was wrong and he said that the beans were ice cold . . . and the lettuce was burning hot.

We are lucky enough in Pasadena to be close enough to get delivery and it is fantastic. Depending on timing we can get a seat at one nearby, but when you time it wrong, three hour waits are possible.

There was no need for any hypotheticals. The case this is based on is about a violent attempted coup with actual facts. The majority just chose to whitewash that and pretend like it wasn’t at issue in front of them so they could make a rule for the ages that would enable worse in the future.

This is a marvelously succinct articulation of the stakes of the 2024 election. It's by @mjsdc.bsky.social and it was how he summed up the implications of the most recent SCOTUS decisions. The theater criticism about which candidate performed better on Thursday obscures these massive stakes.

I liked this argument better as an 1809 satirical pamphlet by Soloman Dismallo Thickskullo Cephalico that explains how to get fat on a diet of air. The tract included an angry letter from the butcher’s union complaining that the new air diet would take away their business.
