Oh, you think Elon Musk is anti-Semite? Well, one of his best friends is Jewish. Now you owe an apology to him AND Ghislaine Maxwell.

It seems in the last few days on the bird site, a lot of "intellectual dark web" types are saying things like, "if we have lockdowns again for another virus, there will be civil war!". So yeah, they've taken things too far. In America, nobody was absolutely forced to lock down.

Yeah, you are mostly correct. It is also a pet peeve of mine. I meant to say from the beginning of the pandemic, but my brain shortcutted. My wife is also immunocompromised, so we had a lot of self imposed lockdown. Avoided COVID until 3 weeks ago, and luckily she survived. (Thanks Remdesivir!)

But sadly all other clinics, hospitals, and Instacares in the area have just dropped masking.

One local clinic that I go to in town still has that left over from the lockdowns. If you are a walk-in and are likely infectious, you get a curbside in-car evaluation and test, and go in a side entrance if they want to do more of a checkup.

I was wondering. Lots of context missing. (Though I saw it all earlier and I followed him)

I forgot to post the flip side of this:
"The regret rate for gender affirming surgeries is, depending on the study, between 1% and 0.1%. And so what are you doing to write all of these stories about this population that mostly doesn't exist?"

I just found out that Tuck is here. @tuck.bsky.social
Tuck -- this podcast episode on You're Wrong About was so good, and I've been mining it for quotes. There were so many great ones. Thank you!

"So what that is to say is that cis and trans people are accessing the same hormones, hormone blockers, birth control, hair removal, mastectomies, breast augmentation, orchiectomy, hysterectomies, vaginoplasties, BBLs, Botox, fillers, all of it is the same."

"And I just really want to stress, because I think people actually don't know this, that the medical resources that trans people access to transition are actually identical to the way that non-trans people's sex and gender are routinely medicalized, to quote Jules Gil Peterson."

"About one in five people regret their total knee replacements. One in five people regret their gastric band surgery. In fact, the average regret rate across all surgeries, if you just average the concept of surgery, the regret rate is about 14%. One in seven."

Such a great and important podcast episode about the NYT and its (mishandling of) reporting on transgender issues:
"We Need to Talk About the New York Times with Tuck Woodstock", from the "You're Wrong About" podcast:

I'm among the crowd who first learned about this by watching the "Watchmen" HBO series, and thought it was a purely fictional depiction. My education failed me.

Interesting -- the page I linked to above suggests that one in the picture I posted is more likely a Sphynx than a hummingbird moth, since the latter's range doesn't extend into Utah.

Did it look like this? That is a hummingbird moth: www.fs.usda.gov/wildflowers/pollinators/pollinator-of-the-month/hummingbird_moth.shtml
When I took this photo, I had no idea what I was looking at.

Doing the quote your own post for visibility thing I hate so much. DMS open if you have ideas, or friends who would be good for the site.
