State-of-the-science review of masks/respirators is out, new from the airborne all stars. 38k words, 413 references.

Bottom line: masks work, but respirators work far far better. (And so much more!)

Writing embryonic grant application.
If I were looking for 3 philosophically contrasting examples of healthcare decision-making under conditions of uncertainty, and eg's 1 and 2 were masks in pandemics and undifferentiated presentations in primary care, what would be a good eg 3? TY. 🧪 #academicsky

This is a game changer! The bacteria Akkermansia muciniphila as well as being a mucus muncher can degrade the glycans that coat blood groups ie target blood group antigens and effectively make them type O the universal donors! Incredible. 🧪 www.nature.com/articles/s41...

Our MSc course is expanding. We're looking to appoint an additional external examiner with expertise in 1 or more of: global health (low-resource settings), health systems, sustainable healthcare, ethical tech transfer, critical social sciences. I'd welcome recommendations. TY

This list was incredibly helpful David (I had some but some were new). Last one seems to be a dead link - am I missing anything crucial? THANKS+++

Great afternoon (and fantastic cream tea) at House of Commons presenting findings of our Remote by Default 2 study to the Great and the Good. Thanks to Baroness Finaly and James Davies for chairing and NuffieldTrust for organising. Funded by NIHR. 🧪

Aaah I'll try to find it. But we are about to publish a new massive review on this topic and I'll be doing another thread (here and on bird) to summarise that.

Updating our review paper while responding to reviewer comments. It's now four months out of date (sigh). Crowdsource question: any really good, groundbreaking epidemiological studies or clinical trials or mechanism studies of long covid published *since 1st Jan 2024*? THANKS! 🧪

Looking for a new way to theorise digital inequity? Here’s our new theory of digital candidacy, featuring the awkward but theoretically useful term ‘facsimilisation’. Led by impressive PhD student Francesca Dakin. 🧪 #GPchat

1/3. It was a marathon to complete this work over 2 years on ‘Pathophysiological Mechanisms in #LongCovid’!
The time it’s taken to get out, there would no doubt be more recent papers that would now be included but the overall messages are still extremely relevant…

Excellent piece from @independentsage.bsky.social and Anthony Costello reflecting on UK approach to the COVID19 pandemic and comparing with the approaches used in SKorea, Australia, Japan etc. we need to acknowledge mistakes and be prepared when and if this happens again 🧪

I talked about fragmentation, de-professionalisation, de-institutionalisation, complexification, responsibilization and facsimilization.
