that's the version I heard growing up, and every ball game mentioned the Jimmy Fund so it made sense. I think it predates the cancer institute though, so maybe not so accurate.

if I got it right, the 'jimmies' (ice cream sprinkles) were a thing from a Fenway Park promotion for the Jimmy Fund, (fundraising for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute) that has stuck around ever since. Raised eyebrows if you forget where you are and ask for them..
