It wasn’t a “bad debate”. The man couldn’t follow a thought for a complete sentence, couldn’t rebut anything Trump said, was entirely incapable of articulating a stance on any salient issue to the campaign. He looked and sounded like he couldn’t be trusted to take care of himself

Between bad prep and facing gish gallop, it was a bad debate. Let him be more of himself (eg “would you shut up man”) and focus less on trying to recount every policy and data point from his term and I’m guessing he’d do much better. Has happened to a lot of first term incumbents at the first debate
