Isn’t the goal to simply provide the framework and then install the administration to carry it out? Likewise, simply push the legal framework out to the placed judges?

Just trying to understand the argument for him to leave the race. It’s because he can’t win? Or he can’t lead for 4 more years? Assuming the risk of upending the campaign 4 mos out is worth it, my question was what apparatus does Harris have to get a victory.

Exactly my point. But if he’s so incompetent to run, why leave him in office? It’s not so clear his advisors are any good given this fallout.

That would assume Biden drops his candidacy but remains as President no? If he drops his candidacy, shouldn’t he also resign (if he’s that incompetent)? And I’m honestly curious as to the Harris campaign mechanism that gets this all set up, campaigns, and wins in under 4 months.

The NYTimes has been running this plot line for years. Sad the rest of the press has mostly followed suit at the expense of no focus on the insanity of Trump.

I agree the mainstream press’ role in shaping candidate perception is definitely broken. But it’s pretty shocking that people who have watched SOTU, voted in primaries, and generally paid attention are this shocked by a bad debate. And are calling for radical action (with no clear plan). Media ftw

His advisors have not done him any favors since the debate (and in prep for debate!). And despite the campaign speech, SCOTUS televised statement and taped interview this week, the press and pundits have clearly picked the narrative they want to beat for near future. That much is at least obvious.

What’s more bizarre is shouting “beat Trump at all costs” while also shouting “dem candidate must drop out” while proffering no viable path to victory via the latter. Shades of 2016 all over again.

The NYTimes has been drumming this drum for two years to the point of malpractice. Biden had a bad debate, in June, which you move on from. But, Biden’s advisors so far seem really bad at their job (see: debate and lack of fallout triage), AND the NYTimes has doubled down on wall to wall coverage.

Seems like their plan may be to amass as much power as possible and force a constitutional crisis/convention. Rewrite the rules forever. Why would they not?

It’s mind boggling that people are gaming out a Harris and Mike Johnson scenario and thinking that is somehow at all a good scenario. Total insanity and shows a punditry negligence only topped by the NYTimes

If you're so concerned about the stakes of this election you could just... spend the next four months writing about the stakes of this election. A constant drip of articles calling the Democratic nominee unfit is also not a great strategy for winning!

The president of the Heritage Foundation, a right-wing think tank behind the Project 2025 plans for a second Trump administration, said the country was “in the process of the second American Revolution, which will remain bloodless if the left allows it to be.”

Seems like the NYTimes is becoming successful in the “Biden old” campaign it’s been running forever now in that the left seems to be splitting into an extreme “replace old Biden” position. Not sure where those voters end up if Biden stays in and recovers in polling (it’s only July).

Think about the baselines here. Taney inherited a vile political system and dedicated his career to perpetuating it. Roberts inherited a system that, although flawed on any number of dimensions, sought to uphold a modest version of democratic equality. He's dedicated his career to dismantling it.

It still seems insane that people are calling for Biden to drop out rather than the DNC working to push is comms team out. They own the performance as much as him. Also, the debate was June… it’s unhinged discourse.

You’ve been banging the “replace Biden” drum, so not surprised to see you captured by anonymous sources in the two papers that have had the Biden Old tune going as the only news story. Dismaying to watch across the board.
