I have been advocating for air purifiers for five years, pre-Covid-19, but many friends were like, "thanks for being annoying, it really helped with smoke/allergies/etc". If you are on a budget I recommend searching on FB Marketplace.

I have a couple of Austins. They are expensive, and replacement filter units are as well, but they work really well and if you change the cheap pre filter at least once a year, the huge central cleaner lasts 5 years.

Buy trusted air purifier brands like Levoit, Coway, and Blue Air. Unwrap your HEPA filters. Clean the screens! And if you can afford it, get multiple machines. (I have two in my 500 sq ft apartment)
