I have two chores I need to do--iron all the linen, which has pleated up like a pile of accordions, or dusting, which means taking a soft paint brush to the hanging art and climbing the ladder to do the tops of the tall bookcases as well as the usual. And it's 97F and muggy. Decisions, decisions.

That right there is why they didn't believe the scientists. You can't talk to the guy whose house is on fire the same as you do on a conference panel. People hate and distrust all experts now, because they couldn't get a straightforward, hopeful answer out of a single one of them.

But for decades, you couldn't get climate scientists to make a definitive statement. It was, "A heat wave is not evidence. because weather is not climate," or "We can't say with absolutely certainty, but..." for DECADES. Scientists hate absolutes, but they screwed the messaging for a mass audience.

I still have another choral group to go, and I'd like to add a music and theater as well, but haven't decided yet. For the most part, they are all shockingly cheap--between $25 and $50 per ticket. I love broadway, but one ticket would pay for subscription or two. Gotta love culture, on the cheap!

I have started putting my calendar together for next season--I have season tickets for BalletX, one choral group, and a mixed one with of dance performances and early music. I get comps for the performances I cover for BroadStreetReview.com, so the most likely suspects are on the calendar as well.

When I didn't have air conditioners, I froze wet hand towels and wash cloths--wash cloths on top of my head, and the towel across the back of my neck and hanging loose in front. The dripped when they melted, but I didn't care!

Definitely evil, compelling, must study. Frequently, however, "so we can become better" never enters into it. Not sure it's important, though. The powerful dead are still dead, and we have the study.

Since the first PC landed on a corporate desk in the late 1980s, they've been assuming that writing is just typing, and you don't have to do that particularly well, because the computer can fix your mistakes.

Probably because they've been doing it since the late 1800s, more or less overtly over time. Banana Republic as a term comes from the fact that United Fruit, which is now named Chiquita, brought in armies and took over the governments of Central American countries for their banana plantations.
