I'm just routinely amazed by how so many of these long hyped products simply don't work well, despite a broader press narrative of bottomless innovation while many of the most useful technological advancements often aren't covered because they're not headline friendly

Yeah. It's weird, but actual usefulness doesn't often attract the most capital either, most often because it doesn't scale well, or quickly enough. Whereas these LLMs are all about deploying at scale, so it doesn't matter that the actual, individual results are shit, they still attract capital.
