Here's what everyone needs to know* about climate change: 🌍 It's real 👥 It's human-caused ⚠️ It's serious 💡 With immediate action, it's solvable ⌛ Later is too late * social science shows these msgs increase acceptance of the issue, awareness of the risk and, most importantly, willingness to act.

Most people know what needs to be done; unfortunately those with the power to initiate the changes aren't fucking interested. To #hellinahandcart 😳

Agree with all but "With immediate action, it's solvable" I think we're pretty far past that point tbh but I hope I'm wrong.

Stoping climate change isn’t profitable for big businesses so they’re not gonna do it unless we force them too. Other peoples’ greed is wrecking both society and the planet. But what else is new? 🫤

End the empire and it's 900 bases spanning the globe, end war, expropriate most of the wealth from the top and redistribute it to the bottom. Anti-war/Imperialism action(the US military is the largest single polluter), Eat the rich(they use up much more resources than any other single person).

Holy hot dang, you get a LOT of replies claiming there's nothing we can do. I see your responses and your work, thank you.

I see you have solid research to back this up, but "later is too late" interests me. A considerable amount of doomerism I see seems to be the result of people treating the 1.5C goal as a cliff - less and we're okay, beyond that, give up. Does "too late" not feed into that?

I loved your TEDtalk all about this but wanted to ask: do you think such a "soft" message will get us there fast enough?

And as an individual your ability to mitigate the effects of climate change is negligible because the changes required are systemic in nature.

I'm teaching climate change to high school kids right now! I played a game of "true or false" with them, and I asked about the statement "More research is necessary before we take steps to prevent climate change", and I'm happy to say most kids correctly identify that as a delaying tactic.

some experts think its no longer solvable, it is too late immediate action would only give us more time

Can you link to the social science that substantiates this claim? I'm inclined to believe you, but I'm curious if these findings are generalizable. I ask because I'd like a more in-depth picture of how to communicate about climate change. thx!

It’s definitely not “solvable” (short of several massive breakthroughs in CC tech). Even if our carbon production dropped to 0 tomorrow, we would still be in for decades or centuries of climate change. It is, however, mitigatable. Which is what we’re fighting for.

Unfortunately it’s not solvable yet, but if we don’t take it seriously and working on finding a way to solve it, then we are doomed. At this point I just accepted we are doomed.

We know this. I mean, I was born in 1970, and I've been reading about it since 1980, so yeah. We know. And nobody in power cares. And nobody in power WILL care until *we* start making it too expensive to ignore. One way... Or another.

We need expensive, unpopular long-term world-wide actions. That requires a world government with a powerful army and no electors. Any alternative to China?

“It’s real” and “serious” seem so difficult to acknowledge for so many! An interesting aspect is that the models have been accurate or even underestimated the extent of warming. In the scientific parlance: the hypothesis is NOT wrong. Those who refuse to see this are blinded by greed & or politics.
