I’m a bit obsessed with this piece about the Lift Alarms Call Centre by Aidan Tulloch.

It made me laugh, it made me sad and it made me want to be friends with Jo, Kat, Kayleigh and Sarah

I just don’t buy the suggestion that (a) one super-elite private club is the sole conduit of the UK establishment, (b) the main problem with that is it doesn’t admit super-elite women, (c) broader social issues will be solved if Amber Rudd can book a table there www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2024...

New in Health & Place 🔓: www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

Fun collaboration with Dimitrios Lampropoulos in which we confidently assumed one thing about health inequalities and then found and had to explain the exact opposite, using 🇨🇭 data

Love the irony of Forbes -- or the psychologists to whom the journalist spoke -- attributing the Matthew Effect (Merton, sociology) and the Matilda Effect (Margaret Rossiter, history & STS) to political science in an article about biases in citation practices.

Really remarkable how different UK immigration is to other Western European countries (bar Ireland). This from PISA shows huge differential effects on school systems.

This interview by the Exxon CEO on climate change is actually very helpful. It makes absolutely transparent many of the distraction tactics those trying to slow climate action are using.

Quick thread of key points…

There's a deep sense of sadness and loneliness seeing this record shattering graph. November 17, 2023 was the first day in recorded history when the earth's surface was a whole 2°C hotter than pre-industrial times. Yet, there's barely any chatter about this staggering breach.

The bottom line: Licensing typcially reduces penalties of employees in low- and medium-wage setting contexts.
