It's not, really; the issue I have with the "ancient aliens" approach is just that it leans even further into the obliquely racist angle that a lot of the tropes and trappings of Indiana Jones and "archaeological adventuring/tomb raiding" as a sub-genre already is playing with.

It’s a ‘left turn’ just in terms of what Rick was referring to — Indy’s religious quests. It works well as yet another pulp action trope. Not sure I agree that it’s racist, though.
