RANDOM ANIMAL FACT: Hyenas have really neat pupils! They aren't round like a dog's eyes. They can appear slitted more like cat's eyes BUT they don't constrict to a near line. Their pupils, instead leave rounded edges. Check it out!

The "ancient aliens" trope is rooted in a conspiratorial notion of "there's no way these ancient civilizations could have figured out XYZ on their own" and reserved almost exclusively for non-white civilizations, is the thing.

It's not, really; the issue I have with the "ancient aliens" approach is just that it leans even further into the obliquely racist angle that a lot of the tropes and trappings of Indiana Jones and "archaeological adventuring/tomb raiding" as a sub-genre already is playing with.
