The dams are old and would cost more to maintain and repair than the amount of electricity they'd generate so taking them down & giving the land back is probably the cheaper option, if you're looking for the reason he signed off on it. It's still good & I'm glad they got it back

100% agree, Newsom is kinda trash but this outcome is very good regardless of how, uh, "imperfect" the vehicle that got us here lol
